The musical “Hairspray” is a lighthearted look back at a time and place in 1960’s America. “Hairspray” will be presented by the Battle Lake School drama department, opening tonight and running through Sunday.

Corny Collins, played by Tyler Ukkelberg, has a plot to incorporate his after school sock hop with low class kids who love to dance. Abbi Hull plays the awkward teen Tracy Turnblad, whose dream is to be on the local dance show. “Hairspray” has a heartwarming message — it’s not what you look like or where you come from, everyone should have a chance.

Show times are 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $9 adults, $6 students. A gala meal is available Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Meal cost is $7 adults/high school students, $5 elementary students, and free for pre-school students.

Tickets are available at the door one hour prior to curtain.
