‘Pirates’ plunder Ashby stage [UPDATED]
Published 10:53am Thursday, November 15, 2012 Updated 10:53am Thursday, November 15, 2012Pirate musicals are always fun, but “Pirates of Penzance” is one of the best. Ashby Secondary will be opening this swashbuckling Gilbert and Sullivan romp on Friday.
A band of tough (but tenderhearted) pirates set hearts aflutter with their high seas hijinks. This cheeky farce contains a winning combination of damsels in distress, a handsome Pirate King, a delightfully dotty Major-General, and a score you will hum all the way home.
“For some students, the confidence they gain by being on stage can be life-changing,” said show director Heidi Kent. “I also enjoy watching the admiration and friendships that develop among students during the course of a play production.”
“Pirates of Penzance” plays at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Ashby School Auditorium. Tickets are $4 for students, $7 for adults on Friday, and $8 for adults on Saturday. Dessert will be served during intermission on Saturday. Tickets are available at the door.
