The Spot hosts Black Friday concert of gratitude [UPDATED]
Published 10:14am Thursday, November 15, 2012 Updated 12:17pm Thursday, November 15, 2012“A Musical Celebration of Gratitude” is the theme for a free musical event on “Black Friday,” according to John Trelstad, who came up with the idea. The jam-session/ concert will be from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at The Spot in downtown Fergus Falls. There is no admission charge, but people who enjoy the music are welcome to leave packaged donations or cash for the Food Shelf, Trelstad said.
Black Friday is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year, and often distracts us from the gratitude we should be experiencing on Thanksgiving weekend, Trelstad said.
Members of the central Minnesota Skilly and Duff Irish Band and those from the Tucker’d Out eclectic ensemble from Fargo, have long been trying to get together and share their music, and Trelstad thought a gratitude event on Black Friday would be a good way to make that happen.
Fergus Falls, being the mid-point for the musicians to meet-up, inspired Mike Loreno of The Spot to offer his venue.
So the plan is for the musicians to get together in the back room of the Spot for a jam session from about 5 to 8 p.m. followed by a free concert.
The public is welcome to the jam session as well as the free concert.
“It’s just our way of expressing our gratitude to the people we play for,” Trelstad said. “It’s what our music is all about.”
