Green Wave dunk Otters 4-0

Published 8:50am Friday, November 16, 2012

The Fergus Falls girls hockey team could not overcome a rough first period as the visiting East Grand Forks Green Wave shutout the Otters 4-0 Thursday.

East Grand Forks lit the lamp early on in the first period as CoCo Piche deposited a Erica Fades pass into the Fergus net. Riley Koberinski added another goal for the Green Wave nearly the end of the period to give the visitor a 2-0 advantage.

Fades would add a goal of her own in the second period off assists by Karly Nelson and Piche.

East Grand Forks would add another goal before the final buzzer sounded as Nelson flipped the biscuit into the net with 3:53 remaining in the game.

The Otters were able to move the puck well on the ice, but could not put it through the pipes in the loss.

“The girls did a nice job competing tonight and got better moving the puck as the game went on,” Otter coach Matt Koalska said. “It has been two games in a row without a goal, and we need to find a way to put the puck in the net. We can’t be successful without some offense.”

Fergus netminder Jodie Salwei posted 29 saves on the game, while Green Wave goalie Madi Galstad stopped 19 Otter shots.

The Otters will look to stop their losing skid as they host Brainerd/Little Falls Saturday at 2 p.m.
