She returned to Otter Tail County to work as a public health nurse. Ann’s signature accomplishment was in trailblazing new practices for the care and treatment of children with disabilities, which heavily influenced state standards.
In retirement, she volunteered extensively for the Otter Tail Historical Society. Where, with her love of history, she aided local communities and families to uncover their pasts.
Ann’s love of life was evident in her passion for her cabin, canoeing on the St. Croix, travel, and her strong relationships with people of all ages.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who deeply loved and admired her strong will and character.
She was preceded in death by her only son, Lorin; siblings, Harvey Smalley and Mary Thornton; and her parents, Harvey and Mabel Smalley. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marvel Jordan; grandchildren, Chris (Jessie), Heather and Lisa; two great-grandchildren; and many loved ones.
Memorials preferred to the Otter Tail Historical Society.
A memorial service is planned at noon Tuesday, at the Otter Tail Historical Society, 1110 West Lincoln Ave., Fergus Falls.
