The M-State Women’s basketball team found their groove Saturday afternoon defeating the Lady Raiders of Central Lakes Community College by a score of 70-35.

The Lady Spartans came out strong and had a very aggressive first half as M-State played much smarter basketball limiting themselves to 16 turnovers compared to the Raiders 26.

M-State also won the rebound battle 53-45, those were both key components in the Spartan win.

The Lady Spartans kept pace and held the Raiders to a 34-23 score. The second half was the best half of basketball the Lady Spartans have played all season, led by Sophomore Alyssa Blair, who finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds to go along with it. Rhoda Christenson looked to be back in her old self as she had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the 70-35 winning effort.

Aria Walstad and Morgan Kapphahn did a nice job distributing the ball to the posts having six and four assists, respectively.

Lindsay Monson helped the Raiders the best she could leading CLC with 10 points.

The Lady Raiders really struggled from the field shooting a measly 20 percent compared to M-State’s 43 percent. The Lady Spartans played some exceptional defense finishing the game with 62 defensive stops.

M-State will take their one and one record on the road for their first time traveling up to Thief River Falls to take on the Northland Community College Pioneers, the game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
