Spartans stun ranked Raiders 75-70
Published 9:00am Monday, November 19, 2012The one and one M-State Spartans hosted the preseason number five team in the country Central Lakes Community College Raiders this Saturday evening and the Spartans won the rebounding battle which was the deciding factor in the big win for M-State by a score of 75-70.
It was a very intense first half for both squads as neither team could really pull away from the other, there were seven ties in the first half and eight lead changes throughout the entire ballgame. The Spartans were without usual starting forward Will Marlow who could not play because of illness. But M-State found a way to hang tough throughout the half going into the locker room down to the Raiders 35-33.
Shane Bosek and Jason Nelson showed that they were ready for the big game this early in the season as the sophomore captains stepped up to lead the team down the stretch.
Bosek finished the game with 21 points and nine rebounds to go along with his great game from the field. Jason Nelson connected from downtown five times in the game to give him 15 which made him second in the scoring column. Spartan guards Boomer Blossom and Rapheal Cabaniss helped do their part controlling the glass getting 11 and nine rebounds, respectively.
Bee Pee Pajibo did a great job controlling the paint for the Spartans as he was excellent inside defensively, he also had 10 points and five boards to keep M-State in the lead.
The Raiders were paced by Kevin Keufler who finished with a double double having 19 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Davis also had 13 points and nine boards to help keep Central Lakes in the game.
The Spartans go on the road for the first time all season traveling to Thief River Falls to take on the Northland Pioneers, game time is scheduled for 8 p,m.
