Della Leitch, 89, of Shady Oaks in rural Underwood

Della Leitch, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at her home.

She was born June 24, 1923, in Breckenridge, the daughter of Berger and Marie (Nygaard) Aasen. She attended rural Leitch School District 112 through the eighth grade.

On Dec. 7, 1943, she married Archie Leitch in Day County, S.D. Della worked at home while raising her family. From 1972 until retirement in 1989, she was employed at the Otter Tail Nursing Home, rural Battle Lake.

Della was a member of the Lake Country Sportsman Club and Rindal Church. She enjoyed dancing, flowers, visiting on the telephone, her collie dog and attending the Underwood Harvest Festival every year beginning in 1948.

Della was proud to be from Underwood, but most importantly, she was proud of her family and once you met Della, you were considered family. Just call her “Ma.”

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a grandson, Robby Leitch, brothers, Orville, Morris, Roy and Herbert; a sister, Gertrude Fjestad; numerous in laws and a grandson-in-law, Tim Norgren.

Survivors include her children, Darrel (Sharon) Leitch of Richville; Larry (Judy) Leitch of Fergus Falls, Cheryl (Randy) Hanstad of Erhard, Kurt Leitch of Battle Lake and Judy (Kerry) Ozment of Mankato; grandchildren, Tammy (Todd) Hinsverk, Lonny Leitch, Rhonda (Eric) Nelson, Amy (Ben) Leonard, Travis Hanstad, April Leitch and Stacy Ozment; great-grandchildren, Riley, Brandon and Madisen Hinsverk, Ramsey Norgren, Brock and Brooklyn Nelson, Nora, Jack, Henry and Molly Leonard and Hunter Ozment; sisters, Betty Torgerson of Richville and Frances Saurer of Fergus Falls; a brother, Norman (Mae) Aasen of Underwood; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Leitch of Fergus Falls and Florence Leitch of Fergus Falls; a special friend Roald Bjornaas of Underwood; her family at Shady Oaks, Staff: Colleen and Sherlock Houge, Lori Petersen and Irene Whitlock; Housemates, Gladys, Leona, Marjorie and Dwight along with numerous nieces and nephews and her dog Laddie.

Visitation: Friday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, at Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls

Clergy: Chaplain Ken Austin

Burial: Rindal Cemetery, rural Underwood. Lunch will be served at the Underwood Community Center following the burial

Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
