A case involving stolen mail in Underwood has been linked to a larger string of identity thefts in Otter Tail, Becker and Cass counties.

The mail was likely stolen about a month ago but did not get reported until Monday due to the amount of time it takes to discover a theft like this to occur, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspects have allegedly been going through mailboxes looking for checks and identity-related items.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the number of cases with which the suspects have been involved, but it is believed these thefts have been going on for months.

One of the suspects was taken into custody several years ago for similar thefts.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office along with several other area law enforcement offices are investigating the case.
