The Fergus Falls 10U Girls Hockey team sponsored by Pemberton Law Firm started their season with two weekend games.
The team including returners Ellie Andersen, Isabelle Luhning, Elizabeth Matson, Alexis McGary, Chloe Nelson, Makenna Stenstrom and Jade Zierden and newcomeres Marilyn Karsnia, Vivian Karsnia, Elizabeth Houge and Laney Martens skated to two victories.
The first game of the season was on Saturday against the Brainerd Elks 10U team in Brainerd. It was all Fergus Falls scoring 15 goals on 43 shots on net. It started early when McGary scored with only two minutes and nine seconds off the clock in the 1st period, the goal was assisted by Nelson. Fergus scored again when Matson added a goal assisted by Andersen and Houge. Andersen then scored an unassisted goal. Brainerd’s first goal came in the first period when Madison Genz scored an unassisted goal. Fergus was back on the board when Zierden scored a goal assisted by Nelson and McGary. McGary scored her second goal with a one timer assisted by Martens. Brainerd’s Erin Host scored their second goal in the first period assisted by Hannah Tibbetts. With 1:15 left in the first, Marilyn Karsnia scored her “first ever goal” assisted by Zierden and Nelson. The score was 6-2 Fergus after one period of play.
Vivian Karsnia kept the momentum going for Fergus Falls in the second period when she scored her first 10U goal unassisted. Nelson followed up with her own unassisted goal. McGary completed her first 10U hat trick when she scored her third goal of the game at the 5:21 mark in the second assisted by Zierden. Andersen scored the final goal of the period unassisted.
In the third period, Matson scored her second goal of the game assisted by Andersen. Matson returned the favor by passing the puck to Andersen for her third goal of the game and the teams second hat trick. Zierden completed a third hat trick for Fergus when she scored an unassisted goal at 6:38 and a short-handed goal assisted by Stenstrom and McGary 12 seconds later. The final goal of the game was scored by Nelson to give Fergus Falls the 15-2 win.
In the net for the Fergus Falls 10U team was Luhning with two saves.
Sunday’s game had Fergus Falls hosting the Fargo Freeze Gray 10U Team.
Fergus dominated the scoring with 13 goals on 19 shots. Fargo scored one goal with five shots on net. Luhning was the goal keeper for Fergus Falls and had 4foursaves. Scoring summary for the Fergus Falls team: Nelson three goals and her first 10U Hat-Trick, Martens scored two goals including her “first ever”, Zierden one goal one assist, Andersen two goals and one assist, Stenstrom one assist, McGary two assists, Matson one goal and two assists, the play-maker Marilyn Karsnia three assists, Vivian Karsnia four goals and her first 10U hat trick. The 10U coaches are excited to see these girls working so hard and still having a lot of fun on the ice. They played tuff defense and controlled the puck in the offensive zone which gave all the girls opportunities to score.
