Spartans squeak past Pioneers 49-48

THIEF RIVER FALLS — The M State Spartan Men’s basketball team was able to rally in the second half to take a 49-48 win over the Northland Pioneers Tuesday.

The Spartans entered the game with a number of ailments including Bee Pee Pajibo (back), Jason Nelson (illness) and Will Marlow all limited in action.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early first half lead as they entered the break leading 26-21.

The M State defense was able to keep the visiting Spartans in the game as they outscored the Pioneers 28-22 to pick up a road victory.

Shane Bosek led the Spartans with 14 points, while teammate Luke Halbakken had 13 tallies in the win.

Northland was able to out rebound the Spartans 40-31, but the key state of the game was the 21 to 13 turnover differential, in favor of the Spartans.

M State moves to 3-1 on the season and will host the Concordia JV team 8 p.m. Tuesday.
