Giving thanks at the library [UPDATED]

Published 9:58am Friday, November 23, 2012 Updated 12:01pm Friday, November 23, 2012

This week, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday and because it is always a good time to say “thank you,” all of us at the Fergus Falls Public Library would like to thank each and every one of you who make the resources, programs and services we offer possible.

Thank you to our library volunteers. Volunteers help in many ways to ensure the library can continue to offer excellent customer service. Volunteers keep library books in the correct order on the shelves and help get new books ready to be checked-out in addition to other duties. Members of The Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library, a non-profit 501c3 organization, help the library through advocacy efforts and holding a variety of annual fundraisers, including the holiday “Festival of Wreaths” and silent auction.

If you are interested in participating in this book-themed fundraiser, stop by the library to pick up a wreath, decorate it based on a book of your choice, and return it to the library by Nov. 30 to be displayed and auctioned off.

Hurry in — wreaths are limited.

All proceeds of Friends of the Library fundraisers benefit library programs and services.

If you are interested in volunteering and/or joining the Friends of the Library, please visit the Friends of the Library page on our website (www.fergusfalls.lib.mn.us) to learn more.

Thank you to our Library Board and City Administration. Library Board members work with city staff to help make the library better. Board members help library staff identify community needs, set policies and budgets, and improve library services.

Thank you to our fellow city colleagues and to the Fergus Falls City Council and Mayor who provide valuable support, maintenance and governance of and for library services, resources, facilities and programs.

Thank you to the Library Renewal Task Force and to all of the individuals who have participated in the Task Force’s focus groups throughout this past year.

Members of the Library Task Force have helped shape the Library Renewal Project and have diligently worked to engage the community in a discussion of community needs, library services, resources and facilities. They have put in numerous hours of dedicated service.

Last, but most definitely not least, thank you to our wonderful library customers and the citizens of Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County and Minnesota for your support. At the library, our mission is to connect people, information and ideas to promote lifelong learning, literacy development, and community involvement to assure the best quality of life.

The library exists to serve your lifelong learning, information and recreation needs, as well as those of your fellow community members.

A heart-felt thank you, once again, and always.

Erin Smith, Library Director, Fergus Falls Public Library
