Farmer’s State Bank received FDIC approval to open a new branch in Rothsay last week.mothers

The community first heard of the possibility of a new bank during a town meeting on July 9. News of the approval came after a lengthy review process, including determining that the new bank shouldn’t harm existing banks in the area, and also that the community is able to support the opening.

Announcement of the proposed bank was published in area newspapers, followed by a 15-day public comment period.

After the review period, the issue was sent to the Department of Commerce and FDIC for final approval.

The bank will be located at 119 2nd Street Southwest in a building purchased from Wells Fargo.

Farmers State Bank currently has two other locations — a main office in Underwood and a branch in Dalton. Hours for the Rothsay branch are expected to match the other locations, which is 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
