PR woman dies when car drives into water [UPDATED]

An 87-year-old Pelican Rapids woman is dead after her car left the roadway and drove into the water about two miles north of Rollag Friday evening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Eileen Johnson was the occupant of the 2008 Buick Lucerne driven by her husband, Ervin Johnson, 83, on State Highway 32 when the vehicle drove into the water, the State Patrol reported.

Eileen died at the scene. Ervin was transported to Sanford Hospital in Fargo and was treated and released at 10:30 p.m., according to the Fargo Forum.

It was not snowing at the time of the crash, and while State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said there were patches of ice and packed snow on the highway at the time, it is unknown whether weater was a factor.
