God will not remain where he’s not welcome [UPDATED]

He has blessed America like no other nation on earth. I also agree that we should use Thanksgiving Day, and every day, to thank God for the abundance that He has blessed us with. We should be especially grateful and thankful for the gift of His Son Jesus Christ.
I disagree however with the assertion that we remain ‘One Nation under God’.
Oh how I wish it we were, but God will not remain where He is not welcome. As evidenced by our recent elections, and as the President of the USA has said; “We are no longer a Christian nation”.
We also no longer live in a land that celebrates life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The unalienable rights given to us by God are gradually and systematically being taken from us.
Many Christians said after the election; regardless who’s president, Jesus is still King. Jesus is King to those who’ve chosen to allow Him to reign in their lives; unfortunately the majority of Americans have chosen another king.
God reigned in Israel in the days of the prophet Samuel, but the nation desired to have a king rule over them. America has also chosen for itself to have a king rule over them.
“1 Samuel 8:4-11 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”
But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will do:
This is what the Democrat/Liberal/Socialist/Marxist will do: He will confiscate wealth and redistribute it in the name of fairness, so that all Americans will be equal, equally poor.
He will reject God’s laws and will embrace the murder of the unborn, perverted marriages and covetousness,. He will turn a blind eye to actual injustices and will invent contrived injustices. He will create division amongst Americans by dividing us by gender, race, and economic status.
He will proclaim peace (perceived peace, not actual peace) with our enemies, while alienating our true allies, including our closest ally Israel.
What is evil, he will call good, and what is good he will call evil.
He will destroy life in the name of choice, liberty in the name of security, and the pursuit of happiness through excessive taxation.
“19-22a But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No.” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. God is not a dictator, He will only rule where He is welcomed. Unfortunately the USA has said “no” we don’t want you to rule over us.

Just for fun here’s a challenge–try and find ONE proclamation or piece of passed and signed legislation from our founding fathers where God is identified as the Christian God. (Hint–you’ll need to find something containing the name of Jesus the Christ)
If you fail then agree to stop promoting your vision/understanding of God as the universally accepted God of the founding fathers.
Christianity, unlike Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, or any other man-made religion, is not a religion. Christianity is having a personal relationship with the creator of the universe. Christianity is not man attemting to get to God through good works or performing certain acts of obedience like religions do. Christianity is God becoming a man and choosing to be made a sacrifice for our sins. Christianity is God (the Holy Spirit) actually indwelling those who’ve accepted Jesus’ as their Savior and have surrendered to His Lordship. It is impossible for man in his own ability and strength to live godly. God has no grandchildren, only children. One is not a Christian simply because his parents were Christians. Simply going to church does not make one a Christian. Being sprinkled with water does not make one a Christian. Reciting some predetermined words on a predetermined day does not make one a Christian.
You cannot legislate or make a proclaimation declaring that everyone will be a Christian. Our founding fathers never made such a declaration, nor signed any legislation mandating that we would forever be a Christian nation. A nation is a Christian nation when a majority of its citizens are indwelt with and led by the Holy Spirit, not by government mandate. A nation is a Christian nation when the electorate votes for representatives that are men and women of Godly character.
You know what I like about Christianity Merle? You guys get to make it up as you go. You can each have your own rules which say everyone else is wrong. If one Christian doesn’t like what another Christian says on any subject, you just get to reinterpret the rule, just like you do here.
Last week I listened to Pastor Rick Warren explain why Christians could choose to abide by certain biblical admonitions such as those in Leviticus, and reject other passages also in Leviticus. He said there were 3 sets of laws in the bible and some of the laws applied only to Jews, other laws applied only to the clergy and still other laws applied to everyone.
Because he is such a practiced public speaker he was able to say most of that with a straight face. The camera men nearly laughed themselves off their feet.
Then just yesterday I was speaking to a super righteous acquaintance and I asked him about who had sex with who to produce the third generation in Genesis. Now he used to tell me that there were additional people walking around with Adam and Eve and the boys but the Bible just didn’t mention them. Eventually even he realized what a silly story that was so he was peddling a new one.
He new theory/story/fact was that (quote) “in those days, the people were pure and uncorrupted so incest was not a sin”. I nearly choked on my coffee, (yes at the Viking) people in the next booth were more polite, they just smiled.
When I recovered and the color returned to my face, I reminded him that Adam and Eve had already been evicted by the time incest became an option. Therefore they were hardly pure. He said “You just don’t understand because the spirit is not in you”. He was right about the last part.
I bring these two examples up because they are both clear examples of the very same thing you do here. You make it up as you go. You interpret and re-interpret the bible until it matches your version of what you want to believe. When you say Christianity is not a religion you sound just like that guy I had coffee with at the Viking.
A nation is a Christian nation when its citizens seek laws that maintain God’s moral laws.
Where did they get the idea to have 3 equal branches of government? Judicial, legislative, and executive! They determined that that much power should not be vested in one entity or one individual.

Yes Ginny, you Christians are persecuted from sunup to sundown, there will be no Christmas again this year because those nasty Socialist will take it away once again, they will shred it as you say. I heard that in some countries where the Socialist haven’t stole Christmas, Christians can go to Church as much as they want to, even on Christmas. They can even sing Christmas carols with out going to jail. In some countries Christians can put little Christian stickers and stamps on their Christmas cards and the government will still deliver them. In some countries (without Socialist and Marxists) Christians can display a little chrome Jesus fish on their car without being tortured for it.
Not here though, not with those nasty Socialist roaming the country side molesting Christians who just say “Merry Christmas”. Here because of the Marxists Christians can only have a Crèche in the corner of their basement and it must be covered day and night.
I head about a little Christian child that was given 30 lashes because he wanted to go to church twice on the same day.
How much more can we take, when will we find relief. When will this persecution end. Stop persecuting me for my religion.
Larry, Daryl, and Daryl, There is only one God(Big “G”), and only one god (small “g”). Both Christians and Jews follow the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. All other religions follow the god of this world (Satan), who can transform or manifest himself into many different false gods and deceive millions of people. I mean a country where the majority of the people are led by the Holy Ghost and live by the spirit of the law, which is in their hearts; not the letter of the law in their heads. Like the USA pre-1960`s when God was welcome in schools, in government and in the public square.
So an omnipotent God chooses not to use his power to simply forgive humankind, but instead implements a solution which requires that he impregnate a teenage girl in order to give birth to himself so he can have himself slaughtered to save human beings from the Hell that he created. He then decides to communicate his scheme through conflicting accounts penned decades later by anonymous authors and subjectively handed down by flawed translators who can’t even agree on the interpretation of “virgin”.

Richard, you make a great point. But—while there is no independent evidence that supports a “creator” God there is no independent evidence that there isn’t a “creator” God either. Again, the wisdom of those who founded this nation.

Oh wow Merle, I didn’t know that the bible verified the existence of god. Well then that changes everything. Had I known absolute undisputable proof was laying there right in front of me I never would have said what I said before.
Perhaps you could help me with one more thing Merle. Since I’ve never called you anything other than your name, I was wondering where the bible says it’s OK for you to be a jerk and call me by someone else’s name. It’s that the way you teach your children to act towards others in School? Does it make a difference for a Christian to act one way on Sunday morning and another way on the internet?

Richard, I know that verse is often called the “Statement of Exclusion.” Why do s ome find it necessary to exclude others? I don’t know. The first Crusade was a victory for the Christian armies. They took back the Holy Land and took many prisoners. To the prisoners they gave two options, repent of their sins, accept Jesus Christ as Savior and be executed quickly and painlessly as possible or be tortured to death. This theology came from religious zealots with a much fresher Bible and who were much closer to the time of the sacrifice of Christ. Should not their understanding of God’s requuirements been more clear than ours?
If religious zealots were wrong then might they not also be wrong now, and how many people has their zealotry harmed?

There are perhaps 1000’s of people who read these comments. When they see me ask a difficult question of Merle, one that he avoids answering or refuses to answer. They note his failure and wonder why. Eventually they ask that same question of themselves and their belief system. That process is the process which causes people to reject fairytales, superstition and magic.

Yes Larry, I have heard of faith, I even understand what faith is and what it is not. I will beging by explaining to you what faith is not. Faith is not wishing, it is not having a desire for something to be true, nor is it simply hoping. Faith is not simply choosing to believe something to be true. Faith, true faith, is based on knowledge. Faith is believing something to be true because of evidence. I have varying degrees of faith with certain people in my life. Some people I have no faith in because I know them to be untrustworthy. Other people I have little faith in because they have been only somewhat reliable in the past. Still others I have total faith in because they’ve always been faithful to me in the past. Faith is having complete confidence in someone. I have faith/confidence in God because He has not only been faithful to me in the past, but has been faithful throughout history to do what He says He will do. Everything that God had prophesied concerning the Messiah/Christ happened just as He said that it would. The God-kind of faith is not what the world calls blind faith. Faith, the God-kind of faith, can come from only one source; The Word (Rhema) of God! In the greek there are two words for the word “WORD”, rhema and logos. Rhema is the spoken word from God. Logos is the written word. Faith does not come from reading the bible, it can, but simply reading it will not necessarily produce faith. Faith comes when God speaks His Word to you. So then faith comes by the Rhema of God, not the logos of God.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

Merle, We’ve gotten pretty far away from what I thiught was the orginal comment of the letter, which was, that we as a nation have moved away from our founding principles. The opposite is true. We are and have always been free to act upon our own devices and vote according to our self interests what ever might be their foundations. That’s one of the beauties of the wisdom of the “founding fathers”.
Your question has already been answered. You can not use something “reported to be” the word of God to support the existance of God. I say “reported to be” for unless you believe the Bible to be the word of God has no more authority than any other book. Don’t get all hung up on that statement-it’s just one of those things that is true and no emotional outbursts will change that.

True Larry, the difference between us and the founders is that we choose to use that freedom to act upon on our own devices and vote according to our own selfish interest, whereas the founder’s chose to trust in God and vote according to the best interest of the nation and future generations.

2) You can not use something “reported to be” the word of God to support the existance of God.
There are two errors in your assertion:
A. When you say “reported to be the word of God” you make it sound as if the authenticity of the scriptures being the Word of God as if it were merely an opinion or allegation. The beauty of the Word of God is that it actually gives the person reading it the ability to prove whether or not it is truly the Word of God. Those who have accepted the challenge have proven to themselves that the Bible is most definately the Word of God, but those who refuse the challenge can only make assertions based on opinion. The bible either is, or is not, the Word of God, there is no middle ground on that. The authority of a person making the statement that the bible is the word of God can be validated by each individual.
John 7:16-17 Jesus answered them by saying, My teaching is not My own, but His Who sent Me. If any man desires to do His will (God’s pleasure), he will know (have the needed illumination to recognize, and can tell for himself) whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from Myself and of My own accord and on My own authority.
EXAMPLE: I say that there is a mouse in the room and you contend that there is not a mouse in the room. If one of us has been in the room while the other refused to go into the room, one of us would be speaking on authority of having seen firsthand while the other would be basing their contention on a personal opinion. Experience always trumps opinion!
B. I, like Paul, was using creation itself (not the word of God) to support the existance of God.
EXAMPLE: We could travel throughout the cities of the world and view all the magnificent structures that man has created; the beautiful buildings, the tall sky scrapers, the statues, the highways and the bridges. Without having ever seen, or even knowing their names, we would both conclude that someone designed and built these structures. Anyone who would debate whether or not architects or construction workers exists would be considered a fool. If a person chose to deny the existance of these workers based on their having never met one of them, they are blind and beyond help. How much more the intelligent design of creation?
Merle, do believe , “appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world” is a reference to the God we think of as the Christian God? Oh sweet innocence!

Here is your problem Merle, the mouse you say you saw is invisible, and you tell us the mouse has magic powers that neither you nor the mouse can demonstrate. No one else can see the mouse and you say the mouse had another mouse write a book that says the first mouse is an invisible mouse with magic powers, and that proves the first mouse is a mouse. Further, you say, if I don’t believe your mouse report, the mouse will get me.
You may have seen something, but it wasn’t a magic mouse.
Richard–exactly!!!! But on the other hand, if you or any of the other readers wants to talk about an experience you can’t explain that happened to you while you walked to “Damascus”, I’ll listen. The outcome of such an event is not very much like what some have described here but if not accepted for what it is and not nutured every day becomes very much like what others here have said. Sad

Don’t you just wish that you can chase away believers so easily. Then you could have the world of idolators and God haters all to your own liking. Chrisitianity is a belief whose disciples have been persecuted by non believers and secularists for centuries, yet the Word of God is eternal and immutable, and it will take more than your hatred of us to erase His guidance from the consciousness and devotion of His followers. Better and more powerful people than any of you have tried and failed.
Don’t worry Jerome, you squeezed in just under the wire. You’ll still get your little sticker to prove you’ve suffered and were persecuted.
When you get to the Pearly Gate just show St. Peter your sticker. He will give you a pat on the back and a sad but knowing nod. You Christians are the biggest crybabies in history. You have every thing you need and more, but you still want a free sympathy ride on the coat tails of a few Christians eaten by some Roman lions.
jerome i hold no ill will to any believers. my problem is with merle and the people like him. here’s the thing. even if we believe and are good christians, we will never be REAL christians unless it conforms to merles ideology. merle is a christian extremist and a shining example of what is wrong with religion in general.
