PR to launch emergency communications system [UPDATED]

Residents in Pelican Rapids will have better access to information with an emergency alert system that can send messages by text, email or cell or landline telephone call.measurement

Property owners and residents are encouraged to register on-line starting Dec. 3 with the city for the MIR3 emergency and weather system.

Notifications could range from a water or chemical leak to storm alerts, and non-emergency notifications such as road construction.

The city had been researching notification systems because some of the age and condition of some of the town’s sirens. New sirens can cost $20,000. The new system is much cheaper, and has no cost to the recipient.
