Arrows hold off surge, beat Pirates

VERNDALE — The Ashby Arrow boys basketball team picked up an opening game win Friday night as they defeated the Verndale Pirates 73-61.

“I thought this was a total team effort tonight,” Arrow coach Jeremy Knick said. “Everyone made solid contributions to tonight’s win and I was very happy with our effort.”

Ashby was led by Blake Ohren with a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards. Teammates J.P. Moe and Tanner Langlie were also in double digits in the game with 16 and 11, respectively.

Dallas Erhmantraut led Verndale shooters with 20 tallies in the game.

The Arrows will travel to Barnesville Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
