Hornets sting HLA in opener

In their season opener, the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comet girls saw the visiting Henning Hornets ride a huge first half lead to a 57-20 win Friday evening.mud

The Hornets were on fire from the floor as they jumped out to a 33 point lead at the end of the first half.

Hillcrest was unable to get back in the game in the second half as they suffered the loss.

“It was a tough first outing,” Comets’ coach Charlie Brue said. “Henning was tall and handled the ball well. We had a tough time in the paint.”

Casey Haugdahl led the Hornets with 23 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Megan Richter had 12 tallies.

Kelsey Nersten had 11 points and seven boards for the Comets in the game.

The Comets will look to right their sails as they host

the Rothsay Tigers Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., while the Hornets will continue on the road for a 7:30 p.m. game Tuesday against Hancock.
