Otters open season with win
Published 1:00pm Saturday, December 1, 2012In the opening game of the 2012-13 season, the Fergus Falls Otters were able to convert 57 percent of their shots as they topped the visiting Pelican Rapids Vikings 71-60 Friday evening.
Fergus was able to control the game as they were able to take a 44-33 lead into the break on their home court.
The Otters continued to apply the pressure and slow down the scoring of the Vikings in the second half as they extended their lead to 23 at one point.
Pelican Rapids was able to trim the lead back, but could not get close as time ran out.
Mike Millard led the Otters with 26 points in the game, while teammates Jackson McAllister (16) and Austin Rund (14) were also in double figures in the game.
McAllister was deadly from behind the three point line as he hit four three pointers. Rund had nine rebounds, missing a double-double by one.
The Vikings were led by Ryan Bruggeman with 23, but saw their top scorer fall out midway through the second half.
Devin Schell and Tucker Forsgren each contributed 13 points to the Pelican Rapids cause.
The Otters will look to carry their momentum into Tuesday night’s game as they travel to take on Little Falls at 7:30 p.m., while the Vikings will look for their first win as they play the Detroit Lakes Lakers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
