A local resident has spent the year fighting cancer, and family and friends are encouraging community members to help him make it through the winter.

Daryl Anderson was diagnosed with colon cancer on May 5. He was again hospitalized Oct. 4 and had emergency surgery the next day.

He has worked for Northern Contours in Fergus Falls for 13 years but missed more than four months of work throughout the summer due to health issues and treatments.

In an effort to ease the financial burden of the mounting medical bills and monthly expenses, Anderson’s friends and family are hosting a benefit.

Lifelong friend of Anderson Kitty Rund said, “We, as friends and family are looking to raise money to defray costs of medical expenses and help them get through the winter.”

The benefit will be held from 11 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at Grace United Methodist Church. There will be a silent auction, lunch and a free will offering. For donation information, please contact Char at 218-731-2324 or Kitty at 218-205-5340.
