Fuel Up to Play awards FF student with Vikings tickets [UPDATED]Published 10:43am Monday, December 3, 2012 Updated 12:45pm Monday, December 3, 2012
A lucky Kennedy Secondary School seventh grade student, Nicholas Hohrman, and his chaperones will be attending the Dec. 9 Minnesota Vikings football game against the Chicago Bears in Minneapolis. The tickets are part of a Fuel Up to Play 60 award announced on Nov. 19.
Kennedy Secondary School is being recognized for taking the lead in student health by participating in the nationwide wellness initiative. Fuel Up to Play 60 encourages schools and students to recruit friends, parents, teachers, business and community leaders to join them in pledging to adopt healthier behaviors, such as choosing foods encouraged by the USDA, and committing to 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Seventh grade student Nicholas Hohrman was awarded the tickets for himself and a chaperone after his Fuel Up to Play 60 student ambassador application was randomly selected from all those submitted.
Kathryn Enderson, Family and Consumer Science Teacher and one of Kennedy’s three Fuel Up to Play 60 program advisors, will also attend the game with her guest.
Since the beginning of the school year, Kennedy Secondary School has successfully activated the three steps of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. In addition, a success story was submitted regarding the Fuel Up to Play 60 Oatmeal Super Bowl Breakfast Challenge. Because of these achieving these milestones, the Midwest Dairy Council recognized Kennedy Secondary School as one of the top 14 Fuel Up to Play 60 schools in the state, and awarded tickets for the Vikings game.
The program is intended to activate schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives and good nutrition and physical activity, in partnership with the National Dairy Council, the National Football League and the United States Department of Agriculture.
Hohrman and Enderson will participate in a pregame photo and other activities on the field, watch the game in reserved seating, and will meet Viktor the Viking.
