The M State Spartan women were able to take a split over the weekend in games against Mesabi Range and Vermillion.

On Friday, Mesabi Range was able to keep the Spartans at bay winning 68-41.

The Spartans struggled from the floor, shooting 21 percent.

Alyssa Blair led M State as she recorded 16 tallies and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

M State recovered on Saturday as key bench points put the Spartans over Vermillion 75-55.

The Spartans saw every player contribute in the win as M State’s bench outscored the Ironwomen 20-0.

Rhoda Christenson led the Spartans with 19 points, while Blair added 17 of her own in the win.

“It was a good day for the team,” Spartan coach Brenda Johnson said. “All 11 players got to see the floor and each one contributed to this win.”

M State will be back at home Friday as they host the Itasca Vikings at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Spartans will celebrate Parent’s Day and will be asking fans to bring in food shelf items before their 1 p.m. game against Northland.
