A Fergus Falls man has been charged with third degree assault, domestic assault and possession of a small amount of marijuana after he allegedly physically abused his wife Nov. 28.

According to Otter Tail County court records, Allen Charles Sheppard, 36, and his wife were discussing bed times for their sick children when a disagreement led to violence. Sheppard allegedly struck his wife in the face repeatedly, leaving her with visible substantial injuries.

Sheppard then allegedly took his wife to the bathroom to clean her up before he began to pressure her sexually.

Sheppard left the house and was arrested a short time later. During a pat search, it was found that he was carrying marijuana and a pipe. He was transported to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.

The woman reportedly vomited after the assault occurred and suffered an orbital fracture to her left eye as a result of the assault.

Sheppard has prior convictions for felony terroristic threats (2002) and gross misdemeanor domestic assault (2009).

Sheppard is being held on $25,000 cash or bond without conditions or bond of $10,000 or $1,000 cash with conditions.
