The Fergus Falls girls hockey team was able to get a 4-2 win over Pequot Lakes to improve their record to 6-5 on the season.

Pequot Lakes started the scoring with 6:25 left in the first period, but Fergus Falls quickly answered with a goal from Lauren Norgren. Stephanie Kolstad recorded the assist for the Otters on the play.

In the second, it was Kolstad’s turn to do the scoring when she was able to bury one unassisted with eight minutes remaining in the period.

Sydney Kuehl was able to keep things rolling with a goal of her own just a few minutes later off an assist from Megan Odland.

Pequot Lakes would respond before the period draw to a close to keep the game close with a 3-2 score.

In the third, the Otters’ Ashley Vaughn added an insurance goal as Fergus netminder Jordie Salwei held Pequot Lakes scoreless in the period to give the Fergus a 4-2 win.

“We have been stressing lately about the importance of consistency. This is our second game in a row where we have played hard and smart.” Coach Koalska commented about the game. “We moved the puck well and had some great passes which created a lot of opportunities. Megan Odland had a really nice set up to Sydney Kuehl. She has worked very hard and been smart with the puck. Ashley Vaughn got her first goal of the season with a nice shot just inside the blue line. That was a huge goal to put us up 4-2 late in the game.”

Fergus Falls looks forward to a tough match up against Sartell/Sauk Rapids on Tuesday.
