After a close first half, the Fergus Falls boys basketball team was able to put away the Breckenridge Cowboys 65-53 Thursday evening.

Both teams worked their hardest to keep the opposing offense off-balance in the early going. The Otters were able to escape at the break with a slim two point lead.

The Otters were able to pick it up in the second half as they responded to Head Coach Dave Rund’s half-time pep talk as they scored 39 points to hold on to the victory.

Austin Rund led the Otter shooters with 11 points, while teammates Reece Johnson, Mike Millard and Jackson McAllister each chipped in 10 tallies in the victory.

Breckenridge’s sophomore sensation Nate Lorenz dropped in 26 points, 19 coming in the second half in the game.

“It was a balanced scoring night for us, when scoring seemed to be at a premium,” Rund said. “Isiah Lemke showed great composure and poise running the offense and making seven of nine free throws down the stretch.”

Free throw were a very important stat in the game as the Otters were able to convert 22 of 32 attempts from the charity stripe, while Breckenridge went 9 for 14 from the line.

The Otters will begin their Central Lakes Conference schedule Tuesday as they travel to take on the Alexandria Cardinals in a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
