Otters split as Aho claims school record

SAUK RAPIDS — With a quick move, Abbot Aho became Fergus Falls wrestling’s winningest grappler in school history Thursday as the Otters split at the Sauk Rapids triangular.

The Otters started the evening off right as they defeated host Sauk Rapids-Rice 40-28.

Aho picked up his recorded breaking win as he pinned the Storm’s David Nelson at the 1:12 mark.

The Otters middle and upper weights gave them the edge in the contest.

In match two, St. Cloud Apollo was able to edge Fergus 37-36.

It was a tough back and forth battle, but the Eagles middle weights were able to stretch a lead that the Otters could not overcome.

“I think we wrestled really hard,” Otter coach Adam Schlepp said. “We still have some things to work on.”

Aho would finish the evening with two wins, moving his total to 151 career victories.

Ben Schindler (126), Tyler Giza (132), Gus Makovsky (182) and Abram Aho (195) each had multiple wins in the event.

The Otters will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Barrett to participate in the West Central Area invitational.
