Giza wins 100th, Otters win GC Invite

The Fergus Falls Otters saw 132 lb. wrestler Tyler Giza to post his 100th career win as they took top honors at the Grant County Invitational Saturday.

Fergus finished with a 206.5 team score as New York Mills took second (165) and Alexandria placed third (152.50).

Pelican Rapids captured seventh place, host West Central came in eighth and Otter Tail Central finished in 10th.

The Otters controlled most of the meet as five wrestlers took home titles including Giza, Abbot Aho (132 lb.), Dan Ringquist (152 lb.), Walker Heinen (160 lb.) and Abram Aho (195 lb.).

Abbot Aho was also named the outstanding wrestler of the meet.

“The number of kids that came through was really impressive,” Otter coach Adam Schlepp said. “Our conditioning and effort paid off big time.”

Pelican Rapids’ Carlos Gutierrez took home the title at the 126 lb. weight class as he defeated Fergus Falls’ Ben Schindler.

Otter Tail Central’s Sam Naddy was the highest place finisher with a fourth place finish in the 113 lb. weight class

120# Abbot Aho defeated Shane Novak, NYM, 5-4 for the Championship.

126# Ben Shindler was second losing only to Carlos Gutierrez, PR 5-4.

132# Tyler Giza in a major decision defeated Adam Sutlief, BRVL, 14-2 for the Championship.

152# Dane Ringquist was a Champion defeating Jordan Thooft, Morris Area, 8-4.
