Victor Raymond Petterson, 73, a resident of Fergus Falls

He was born March 19, 1939, in Fergus Falls, the son of Ruth (Peterson) and V.R. Petterson Sr. He grew up on the farm in Fergus Falls Township, attending school at District #1407, and then Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1957.
On May 23, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Torgerson, at Our Saviors Church in Dalton. They have made their home on the farm since where they raised crops and feeder cattle, and also dairy farmed until 2000. Vic and Janet received the U of M Farm Family Award in 1996.
Community involvement has always been an important part of his life. He has served on the Fergus Falls Town Board since 1998, and helped organize the Rural Youth Safety Days. For 40 years he worked with the West Otter Tail Crop and Forage show. He also participated in FFA, 4H, and the Ducks Unlimited Green Wing banquet.
Sitting on the Otter Tail County Planning Commission for 14 years was one of the chief highlights of his volunteerism, because he said he learned about out-of-the-way structures, unknown lakes and the beautiful topography of the county.
He was a lifetime member at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, where he was baptized and confirmed, and served on numerous boards and committees.
He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and belt buckles, and spending time hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and keeping up with news and farm publications. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was very important to him.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a son, David.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Fergus Falls; son, Jon (Michele) Petterson of Fergus Falls; daughter, Kim (Jeff) Lotzer of Fargo, daughter-in-law, Lanette Petterson of Fergus Falls; four grandchildren: Autum, Lindsey, CJ, and Jacob; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
