Lloyd Island, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Barrett Care Center.

Lloyd was born to Louis and Alma (Christopherson) Island on Aug. 29, 1916, at their home in Pomme de Terre Township in Grant County. He attended country school and farmed with his brothers.

On Dec. 7, 1939, Lloyd married Kathleen Huse and continued to farm, moving to a farm in Lawrence Township west of Wendell.

Their home burned in 1969, and they lived with Lloyd’s brother Clifford until 1976, when they bought a mobile home and moved it on a country lot north of Elbow Lake.

Lloyd and Kathleen enjoyed attending social activities in the community, which included many threshing bees in the area, and family gatherings. They spent several winters in Brownsville, Texas. Kathleen passed away January 12, 2008.

Survivors include one brother, Orlin Island of Fergus Falls, and his sister, Gloria Lee of Barrett, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Alma Island, his wife Kathleen, and three brothers, Clifford, Roy and Norlin.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, with the Rev. Bob Toso officiating. Burial will be in the Ness Cemetery in Elbow Lake.

Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake is in charge of arrangements.
