Edsel Westman, 80, of rural Underwood

Edsel Westman, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his home.

Edsel Myron Westman was born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Benedict, N.D., the son of Ellsworth and Dagnie (Olson) Westman. He was baptized in the Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict and confirmed in the Grue Lutheran Church in rural Ashby.

Edsel went to school in Benedict and at the age of nine years moved with his family to Minnesota, attending the Underwood School, graduating in 1949, from the Battle Lake High School.

He dairy farmed by Clarissa and then by Vining. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies.

Edsel’s last job was operating a road grader maintaining the roads for Star Lake Township.

He liked his dog, horses and chickens, was an outdoors person who also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Edsel is survived by two sisters, Violet Evavold of Ashby and Darlene (Bob) Thoen of Cologne; one brother, Andrew (Betty) Westman of Garfield; sister-in-law, Laurize Ruof of Florida; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and special neighbor friends, Bert and Lana Holmquist and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Dagnie Westman; one sister, Gwendolyn Olson; and one brother, Lynn Westman.

Visitation: Saturday one hour prior to the service Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Battle Lake

Burial: Grue Lutheran Cemetery
