Allen “Al” R. Larson, 74, of Duluth

Allen Larson, formerly of Proctor, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his home.

Al was born on April 27, 1938, in Elbow Lake, to Margaret and Albin Larson.

He graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead in 1960.

On Nov. 30, 1956, he married JoAnn Melaas. They just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

Al was a coach, teacher, principal, and administrator for 33 years, beginning in New York Mills and finishing his career in Proctor.

Al was an avid sports fan, playing football and basketball in high school and football at Concordia College.

He also was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed traveling to warmer climates.

Al deeply loved and was very proud of his children and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albin.

Al is survived by his wife, JoAnn; mother, Margaret; son, Tim (Dawn); daughters, Liz (Mike) Harty and Daidre (Steve) Bakke; granddaughters, Amy (Jarred), Andrea, Kjerstin, Kyra, and Aasta; and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge or Our Saviors Lutheran Foundation.

A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4831 Grand Ave., in Duluth.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
