Lady Spartans split at Raiders’ Invite

BRAINERD — The Lady Spartans rounded out their pre-holiday schedule with a 1-1 record at the Central Lakes Invitational Friday and Saturday.

In Friday’s action, Rainy River was able to gain an early lead and never look back as the M State Women fell 68-56.

Maria Johnson led the Spartans with 11 tallies, while Rhoda Christenson and Aria Walstad each dropped in 10 points in the game.

The Spartans were able to rebound with a win Saturday as they defeated Central Lakes 77-73.

Christenson had an outstanding game putting in 23 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the win. Teammates Alyssa Blair (13), Morgan Kapphahn (12) and Walstad (12) were also in double figures for M State.

The Spartans will be back in action in 2013 as they travel to Grand Rapids to participate in the Itasca Classic Jan. 4-5.
