Squirt B’s top Park Rapids

The MN Motor Company Squirt B hockey team braved the ice, snow, and slushy roads to notch a most deserved road victory against Park Rapids this past Saturday, 6-3.

After a scoreless first period, Sterling Andrews scored the first of his two goals on the day to give Coach Trevor Larson’s team a lead. Maveric Kalenberg followed shortly after with a nifty goal that put the MN Motor squad up by two. Two second period goals by Park Rapids evened the score before Andrews added his second goal to give the MN Motor pucksters a lead they would not relinquish.

Strong defensive play and admirable puck handling kept Park Rapids out of the MN Motor zone much of the rest of the afternoon. Ian Stumbo was strong in the net, stopping several breakaways and stifling any momentum Park Rapids was able to gain. He finished giving up three goals. Complete game stats were not available at press time.

Xander Hanson scored his first goal of the season for the Mn Motor team to make it 4-2 later as this young group continued to gel offensively on the ice before trading a Park Rapids goal with an athletic goal of their own from Andrew Starzl, whose knack for being in the right place paid off at the right time to make it 5-3 with 8:00 to play in the game.

Defensive stalwart Evan Norenberg also scored his first goal of the season when he took the puck from center ice up the left seam to score a crafty breakaway goal and put the game on ice, 6-3.

It was, perhaps, the finest played game of this young season for the Mn Motor Company Squirt B’s and a nice prelude to this weekend’s game hosting the Fargo White squad Saturday, December 22 at noon at the Fergus Falls Community Arena.
