Chargers’ run sparks win over Tigers
Published 10:41am Wednesday, December 19, 2012ROTHSAY – The Rothsay girls basketball team was unable to catch up after a 8-1 Brandon-Evansville run late in the first half, falling to the Chargers 49-58 in a Little Eight Conference match up.
The games early action saw each team neck and neck at 18-18 up until the last few minutes of the half when the Chargers started to pull away.
A second half push defensively by the Tigers slowed down the Charger offense, but was not enough to gain the victory.
“We tried to put a strong defensive pressure on the Chargers to get back in the game,” Tigers’ coach Jesse Arbuckle said after the game, “but they handled the pressure very well and we just weren’t able to overcome the gap.”
Carlie Steffenson and Megan Friedrich lead the offensive attack for Brandon-Evansville with 14 points each.
The Tigers were lead by Ashley Maack and Caitlin Simmer who both netted 11. Simmer also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Rothsay will take on Barnesville at home Thursday night, while Brandon Evansville travels to Bertha-Hewitt to take on the Bears.
