Kettle donations behind last year

The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is about $39,000 short of its collections goal for the season and about $5,000 off last year’s pace, according to Lt. Linda McCormick, which will make it difficult to help people.

“If we don’t reach our goal it will severely impact the assistance we can offer people next year,” she said. “The money goes fast when we are helping people.”

So far, about $39,000 has been collected, compared to $44,290 at this time last year. McCormick said last year, a late push before Christmas helped bring the collections in line with the $75,000 goal.

This year’s goal is $78,000, and McCormick hopes residents will respond in their historically generous way to help the campaign reach its goal.

“Otter Tail County is a generous county and I think they look to the needs of their neighbors at this time of the year,” she said. “I put the kettle collection in the hands of the people of Otter Tail County, and God.”

Money collected from the Kettles allow the Salvation Army to “do the most good,” throughout the year, helping families and during local, state or national crises.
