New board members join Dollars for Scholars

The Fergus Falls Area Dollars for Scholars welcomed three new board members at its annual meeting: Denise Laymon, Development Director for the Lake Region Healthcare Foundation, Heather Lee, Doctor of Physical Therapy at Lake Region Healthcare and Erin Smith, Library Director for the Fergus Falls Public Library.
The board chairman is Guy Olson.
Fergus Falls Area Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported nonprofit, tax-exempt scholarship organization in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Operated by an all-volunteer board of directors, the purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to expand access to higher education by involving and assisting the community in supporting local students and encouraging them to higher levels of educational achievement.
In the last fiscal year, Dollars for Scholars awarded $41 million in scholarships, impacting the lives of close to 40,000 students.     Our national organization set the ambitious goal of helping 750,000 students finish college with manageable debt by 2025.
The Fergus Falls Chapter has over $1 million in assets and has awarded over a half a million dollars in scholarships.  In 2012 58 scholarships were awarded to seniors from Fergus Falls High School and Hillcrest Academy, 47 of those are named and endowed scholarships.
