Pelican Rapids blasts Red Lake 89-32
Published 9:54am Friday, December 21, 2012THIEF RIVER FALLS — The Pelican Rapids girls saw five players reach double figures as they trounced the Red Lake Warriors 89-32 Thursday at Northland Community and Technical College.
The Vikings opened the game firing on all cylinders as they dropped in 55 points and were able to hold Red Lake to 18 tallies at the break.
The second half saw much of the same as the Pelican Rapids defense continued to tighten the vice around the Warrior offense as they allowed only 14 points to the hosting team in the remainder of the game.
“We came out with a lot of energy,” Vikings’ coach Brian Korf said. “Our defense played outstanding and we were able to get several different girls involved in the game.”
The Korf sisters, Mackenzie and Madison, each dropped in 17 points for Pelican Rapids, while teammates Lincoln Haiby (11), Lizzie Pfeifle (10) and Kendra Weinrich (10) were also in double digits in scoring. Mackenzie Korf also dished out 11 assists for a double-double in the win.
Tatianna McClain was the only Red Lake player in double figures with 10, while top scorer Averi Holthusen, who is averaging 30 points a game, was shutout.
The Vikings will now prepare for their home Holiday Tournament as they host Norman County East Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
