Support HS band to D.C. [UPDATED]

The Kennedy Secondary School marching band received an invitation to perform at the Presidential Inaugural Parade for the second consecutive time. We would like to congratulate everyone involved and encourage community members to help the band make the trip a reality.

Former band director Jim Iverson was in the process of passing the baton to director Scott Kummrow when the marching band received the invite in 2008. Although programs can easily fall apart when a longtime leader leaves, the KSS marching band hasn’t missed a beat with Kummrow at the helm.

We commend Kummrow and the entire band program for being excellent representatives for Fergus Falls Public Schools and the city as a whole over the years.

Kummrow told The Daily Journal that opportunities like this can’t happen without an overwhelming amount of support of the community. In 2008, the band’s trip to D.C. was almost entirely funded by local businesses and individual contributors, and we would like to see the community rally around the band once again.

The marching band needs to scrape up about $60,000 in three weeks to make this trip a reality, and we encourage everyone to contribute, as the band will represent our city at a national level.

The KSS marching band has set a high standard for excellence in Fergus Falls, and we think it deserves the support of the community.
