Otter boys top Green Wave 68-64
Published 10:24am Friday, December 28, 2012Austin Rund found his stroke from beyond the arc, hitting five of six three pointers as the Fergus Fergus boys top the East Grand Forks Green Wave 68-64 in the Otters holiday tournament Thursday.
The first half was a seesaw battle as both teams went on runs keeping the game close. East Grand Forks pulled away late in the half to hold a 38-28 lead as the teams left for the locker room at the break.
The Otters continued their strong second half play as they ratcheted up their defense and caught up to the visitor, tying the game at 46 apiece.
The Fergus shooters were able to find their stride and pull away, holding off the Green Wave to pick up the win.
Rund finished the evening with 24 point, leading the Otters, while Mike Millard threw down 20 tallies for Fergus in the win.
Jackson McAllister’s eight points and Drew Pearson’s six helped spark the Otters in the second half towards the win.
The Otters continued their success at the JV and 9th grade level as each team recorded wins. Noah Strom led the Fergus JV, which saw five players in double figures, with 16 points in their 69-54 over East Grand Forks, while Matthew Monke dropped in 19 marks for the Otter 9th-graders in a 59-44 win over the Green Wave.
The Otters will now take on No. 1 (Class A) Maranatha Christian Academy Mustangs in the tournament championship at 8 p.m. Friday evening.
