An 18-year-old Perham woman and a 42-year-old Wadena man were injured in a crash near Perham.

Jamie Kent Huttenen was driving his 1994 Chevy, Kodiak commercial logging flat bed truck west on County Highway 34 when Sophie Viola Byer, driving a 2008 Pontiac G6, pulled out in front of Huttenen from 410th Avenue. Byer was struck broadside by Huttenen, who was not able to stop in time at about 8:30 a.m.

Byer claimed she looked but did not see the Kodiak coming. Both were taken by ambulance to Perham Memorial Hospital. Byer was suffering from head and back pain and Huttenen reported lower back pain.

Damage to both vehicles exceeded $1,000. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reported that road conditions and weather were not contributing factors.

Huttenen was cited by a Minnesota State Patrol commercial vehicle inspector for violations unrelated to the accident. The truck is registered to The Lumber Depot of New York Mills.
