Vikings take 3rd at Moorhead Tourney

MOORHEAD — The Pelican Rapids boys basketball team took home the third place trophy as they defeated Cambridge-Isanti 79-53 Saturday.

The Vikings came out of the gate with a strong defensive presence as they held the Bluejackets to only 22 points in the first half, while dropping in 47 of their own.

Pelican Rapids was able to keep Cambridge on the ropes the rest of the game as they added 22 points to seal the win.

Bruggeman was on fire from the field as he dropped in 30 points, while also dishing 10 assists to pick up a double-double for the Vikings. Teammate Tucker Forsgren also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards.

On Friday, the visiting Vikings were upended by the hosting Moorhead Spuds 73-53.

Bruggeman led the Vikings with 24 tallies in the game.

Forsgren and Bruggeman were named to the All-Tournament team at the end of the event.

The Vikings will be back to regular season action Jan. 11 as they travel to take on No. 3 (Class AA) Hawley in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
