FF school levy down for 2013

Published 11:14am Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Taxpayers in the Fergus Falls School District should see a slight reduction in property taxes in 2013, finance director Mark Masten reported Monday.

Masten reported that 4.8 percent reduction in the levy for taxes payable for fiscal year 2013-2014, resulting in a $286,012 reduction in taxes.

“The primary reason it’s going down is related to construction projects that are already paid off,” said Masten. “We don’t need the levy funds for certain things that we already got done during construction like asbestos removal or fire safety. Since we had the buildings opened up, we got those things done.”

MSHSL meets on section-only play

The Minnesota State High School League met Dec. 5 to talk about plans to move to strictly sectional play in sports across the state.

No decision was made at the meeting, but the talks will be on going.

“There has be no determinate decision on moving to strictly section play,” Fergus Falls Athletic Director Gary Schuler said. “These type of talks take time, but I believe that around the state the move to sections is split to about 50/50.”

Well, our property tax portion that goes to the school is actually going and not a little bit either. So, I’d love to find out if we aren’t the only ones seeing a drastic increase in the amount of taxes we pay.
