Input on Perham incinerator sought

Published 9:55am Wednesday, December 12, 2012 Updated 11:56am Wednesday, December 12, 2012

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will host a public information meeting in Perham to review a draft environmental impact statement for a proposed expansion of the solid waste incinerator located in that city. The meeting will be January 3, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in Perham City Hall.

The public comment period for the draft environmental impact statement runs through Jan. 16. The Perham Resource Recovery Facility wants to add a second waste heat boiler as well as additional air pollution control equipment and a material recovery facility. The expansion would increase the processing capacity of the facility from 116 to 200 tons of waste per day.

The facility voluntarily proposed an Environmental Impact Statement for this project. An Environmental Impact Statement is used by the M.P.C.A. as a guide in issuing permits for a project and identifying ways to reduce or avoid adverse environmental effects.

For more information about the comment period or public meeting, visit the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website or call Dan Olson at the M.P.C.A. office in Detroit Lakes.
