Otters skate to a 3-3 stalemate

The Fergus Falls boys hockey team took on Sartell/St. Stephen on Tuesday night as three periods, plus overtime proved to be undecisive as the Otters once again ended a game with a 3-3 tie.

Although the Otters outshot the Sabres 51-26 in the game, the final score was still knotted up at three a piece.

An uneventful first period led to a second period where an outburst of scoring ensued.

Sartell/St. Stephen opened things just over a minute in, but Casey Ward of the Otters quickly scored, soon followed by a goal from Sam Rausch to give the Otters a 3-2 lead. Penalties would prove to hurt Fergus Falls though as Aaron Randall scored two power play goals for the opposition to give Sartell/St. Stephen a 3-2 heading into the third.

A clutch goal by Zach Tarczon assisted by Joe Nathe with little time remaining in the game would bring the game to its final score of 3-3.

In overtime, the Otters put eight shots on goal but were unable to put one in the back of the net.

“We competed hard, and outshot them greatly, but we need to find a way to take advantage of scoring opportunities,” said Coach Donaghue about the game.

The Otters will travel to Sauk Rapids/Rice on Thursday for a 7p.m. Central Lakes Conference match up.
