Otters win rollercoaster game

Published 10:47am Friday, December 14, 2012

In a game that presented a lot of twists and turns, peaks and valleys the Fergus Falls boys basketball team was able to pick up their fourth win against Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Tech 60-56 Thursday.

The Otters looked to run away with the game in the first half as the Fergus post players were able to push the ball through the ring giving the home team a 35-17 halftime lead.

If the game was a amusement park ride, the Otters saw a dip in play in the second half as they saw their nearly 20 point lead turn into a deficit as the Tigers rallied past the coasting Fergus team.

“We became passive and stagnant in the second half,” Otter coach Dave Rund said. “We ended up doing a lot of standing around on both ends.”

But just when the Otters felt like the ride would never end, they were able to recover and hold of St. Cloud Tech for the victory.

“We have to give credit to our guys for pulling out the victory after seeing our lead collapse,” Rund added.

Fergus saw the Tigers outscore them 39- 25 in the second half, but the Otters were hot from the floor as they hit 22 of 36 shots and went 9 of 16 from the charity stripe.

Austin Rund led the Otter ballers with 18 tallies, while teammates Reece Johnson and Mike Millard both dropped in 11 points in the game.

In JV and ninth-grade action, the Otter JV squeaked out a 43-42 win with Connor Danielson leading the team with 18 points, while the ninth-grade finished the sweep with a 58-55 win. Matt Monke knocked down 18 marks and Jaden Banks scored 14 in the win.

The Otters will be back in action Tuesday night as they continue their five game homestand against the No. 10 (Class AAAA) Moorhead Spuds in a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
