Fergus Falls boys sink Lakers 75-50
Published 10:02am Friday, January 4, 2013In their first game of the new year, the Fergus Falls boys basketball team was able to slow down the hot three point shooting of Detroit Lakes to pick up a 75-50 win in front of a home crowd.
The first half saw a hard fought battle between the two classic rivals as Jackson Lyngaas kept the Lakers close, hitting five treys. The Otters would go into the break nursing a eight point lead over the charging visitor.
After a half that saw the Lakers sink seven team three-pointers, Detroit Lakes went cold from the floor as the Otters defense stifled their shot attempts to seal a 25 point victory.
“The first half was a tight battle, mostly due to DL’s three-point shooting,” Otter assistant coach Derek Abrahams said. “ It was a typical Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes battle. Our defense was able to give us some breathing room and allowed us to pull away.”
Mike Millard led the Fergus shooters as his inside presence led to 28 points, while teammate Austin Rund dropped in 18 tallies and had 12 boards for a double-double.
Drew Pearson (13) and Reece Johnson (12) were also in double figures for the Otters.
The Lakers’ Lyngaas finished the evening with 17 points in the loss.
The Otters look to keep their New Year’s resolution intact as they travel to take on St. Cloud Apollo Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
