Otter girls hockey blanked 3-0 by Alex
Published 10:04am Friday, January 4, 2013ALEXANDRIA — The Fergus Falls girls hockey team had a rough start to 2013 as Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria blasted the Otter net on the way to a 3-0 win Thursday.
The first period saw both teams skate to a scoreless tie.
The Cardinals were able to break the silence midway through the second period as Mari Wosepka slipped the puck past Jordie Salwei off a Hannah Hansen assist. McKenzie Revering added another goal for Alexandria off a Shelby Iverson assist near the end of the period.
Fergus had chances but saw the game get out of their reach as Taylor Ellingson slapped in a unassisted goal late in the third period to ice the game.
“It wasn’t a bad game,” Otter coach Matt Koalska said. “We had a few power plays that we couldn’t convert. We just need a full effort by everybody, on every shift.”
Salwei finished the night with 40 saves as the Cardinals peppered the Fergus net. Amy Jost, Alexandria’s netminder, finished the evening with 14.
The Otters will be back in action Saturday as they host the Bemidji Lumberjills in a 2 p.m. showdown.
