Otters wrestlers fall to Warriors 41-27

The Otter wrestling team opened 2013 at home, but saw a tough Brainerd Warrior team pick up a Central Lakes Conference victory 41-27.

Fergus Falls celebrated Parents’ Night at the meet. They also handed out awards to Abbot Aho (150) and Tyler Giza (100) for 100 wins.

A special plaque was made for former Otter head coach Mark Aho for his years of service to the wrestling program.

The meet was a back and forth battle as the Warriors took the first two matches, but three straight wins by Abbot Aho, Ben Schindler and Giza put the Otters ahead.

The Warriors would take control of the meet winning several key matches in the middle weight classes.

The Otters fought back as Dan Ringquist (152 lb.), Gus Makovsky (182 lb.) and Abram Aho (195 lb.) added three more wins, but Brainerd was able to hold the Fergus matmen off to emerge victorious.

“I was pleased how well our team wrestled against a very good team,” Otter coach Adam Schlepp said.

The Otters will look to rebound as they travel to Benson for an Invitational tournament Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
