FF swimmers take 5 firsts

MINNEAPOLIS — The Fergus Falls boys swimming and diving team saw three members pick up first place finishes at the Maroon and Gold Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Saturday.

The Otters’ Cal Mouritsen and Joe Kitzman both claimed first place finishes in two events at the meet.

Mouritsen torpedoed through the water to pick up a wins in the 200 IM (2:07.75) and the 100 freestyle (50.19), while Kitzman claimed the 100 fly (54.35) and 100 backstroke (55.58).

Michael Aasness continues to have a great season for Fergus taking first in the diving competition with a score of 215.3. Teammates Reid Magnusson and Mikey Pistulka finished in sixth and 16th place, both scoring for the diving team.

The Otters would record a school record for the meet as the diving team scored 60 points, the most at the Maroon and Gold meet.

Scoring for the meet gave points to the top 20 swimmers. Clay Danielson in 200 freestyle (16th, 2:01.30) and 100 fly (14th, 1:00.93) and Conner Hatfield in 100 backstroke (19th, 1:05.89) picked up points for the ninth place Otter team.

The Otters will be back to dual action Thursday as they host Central Lakes Conference opponent Willmar in a 6 p.m. showdown.
