Floyd Wesley Hill, 82, of Fergus Falls
Published 6:14am Monday, January 7, 2013 Updated 8:19am Monday, January 7, 2013Floyd Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
He was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Minneapolis, the son of Walter C. and Jennie S. (Hardy) Hill. He grew up in Minneapolis where he attended public schools and graduated from high school. He also attended the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Minneapolis. He spent three years in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in March of 1950.
On Feb. 24, 1951, he married Elizabeth “Arlis” Geyen. They lived in Brooklyn Center for approximately 30 years. In 1978, the family moved to a rural residence near Pelican Rapids. Floyd was a semi-truck driver for 20 years.
He also was an addiction counselor for 20 years in the private and public healthcare systems, retiring from that profession in 1992 at the age of 62.
Floyd entered the Vets Home in March of 2008. He loved being there and having old co-workers and new friends as a part of his family.
He volunteered at the Vets Home up until his death.
Floyd began his path of sobriety on Jan. 1, 1959. He just celebrated his 54th anniversary this year.
He was a member of Local 544 Teamsters Union in Minneapolis.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sisters, Lois Hill and Phyliss Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Arlis, of Fergus Falls; five children, Cindy (Paul) Kopacz of Brooklyn Park, Douglas (Brenda) Hill of Brainerd, Becky (Steve) Scott of Pelican Rapids, Nanette (Chuck) Albright of Pelican Rapids, and Jenny (Matt) Sorum of Fergus Falls; 17 grandchildren, Jason (Kristi) Kopacz, Sunnie (Phil) Darville, Kristina (Bryce) Bjerke, Elizabeth (Dan) Lovre, Cassy (Jason) Moe, Adam Albright, Jessica (Lupe) Valdovines, Noah Albright, Caleb Hill, Joshua Albright, Brandon Hill, Brady Hill, Levi Sorum, Pearl Anja Beth Sorum, Eli Sorum, Jonah Sorum and Sam Sorum; and seven great-grandchildren, Wesley Darville, Elias Valdovines, Lane Lovre, Luca Kopacz, Beau Bjerke, Henry Kopacz, and Marlo Lovre.
Visitation: Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Monday, at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
